Developing Health & Wellbeing in the Community

Healthy Mind Healthy Grind is a new health and wellbeing initiative inspired by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Soul and Sound recognised the need for comprehensive support—physical, nutritional, and mental—during this challenging time and beyond. By partnering with various organisations, we have developed a range of engaging and educational activities to support our community.

Healthy Mind Healthy Grind Self-Development Programme

We take pride in our supportive network, which includes professionals, entrepreneurs, community organisations, and individuals who share our vision. Through the HMHG programme for young men and women, members benefit from regular interaction via online groups and Q&A sessions, gaining valuable insights to enhance their physical and mental wellbeing.

Our programme features nutritional classes, budget-friendly plant-based cooking workshops, daily motivational videos and quotes, weekly challenges, and bi-weekly accountability sessions. Members set action points, celebrate their achievements, and stay motivated throughout their journey.

Workshops and Presentations

Our director, Marcel Andrew, is deeply committed to the health and wellbeing of young people and families. Having grown up in a deprived area of East London, Marcel understands the challenges of maintaining a healthy lifestyle without adequate resources and support. His personal experiences, combined with his research and collaboration with healthcare professionals, highlight the significant link between nutrition and mental health. This connection can impact physical health, leading to stress, anxiety, and depression.

Marcel is working with various organisations across London to raise awareness about the impact of unhealthy eating and to promote healthier alternatives. He believes that it’s possible to “Live Good in the Hood!” even on a tight budget.

Plant-Based Cooking Workshops

Our interactive mobile plant-based cooking workshops cater to families, schools, sports clubs, and residential homes. In the face of inflation and the cost-of-living crisis, these workshops educate individuals and families on bulk cooking, healthier snacking habits, and making nutritious choices.

Participants work with a cookery teacher and personal development coach to prepare delicious plant-based meals on a budget. They gain cooking skills, learn about the nutritional benefits of ingredients, and understand the health implications of fast food.

We emphasise conscious food consumption and the gut-brain connection, exploring how diet affects our thoughts, feelings, and daily actions. Each week, participants cook a new dish, both sweet and savory, and take home their creations. For homework and weekly accountability, they receive menus and step-by-step instructions to practice cooking at home, with the opportunity to share their experiences with the group.
